# Error "404. Wrong invite code"

An error occurs when attempting to join a group using an invite code.

```json
{    "error": {
        "code": 404,
        "message": "wrong invite code"
    }
}
```

**Main reasons:**

* The invitation code has been changed.
* The invitation code is invalid or contains extra characters (a common issue when copying and pasting manually)
* The group has reached its 1024 member limit
* Admin approval is required to join the group
* If you were previously removed from the group, WhatsApp blocks you from rejoining via the invitation link
* An invite was sent when attempting to add a member manually after an error occurred. This option cannot be used in the API; a link generated from the group settings is required.

Recommendation: Check that the code is up to date. Try joining the group via the WhatsApp mobile app or WhatsApp Web—the app usually displays a more specific reason why your request could not be completed.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://support.whapi.cloud/help-desk/troubleshooting/other/error-404.-wrong-invite-code.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
